An option is one of the derivative products that gives rights to its holder to buy or sell a certain asset with price agreed upon at or before the maturity date to another party. A European option is an option that can only be executed at the maturity date. The price of a European option can be determined numerically using the traditional Monte Carlo simulation method. However, traditional Monte Carlo simulation exhibits low convergence rate. To improve its convergence rate, the Monte Carlo simulation are modified using low discrepancy sequences. This paper discusses European option pricing that uses three low discrepancy sequences such as Halton sequence, Faure Sequence, and Sobol Sequence on the Monte Carlo simulation. The results will be compared with the analytical result using Black Scholes model. Based on the calculation results, the Sobol sequence has a better convergence rate and relatively lower error than the Halton sequence and the Faure sequence. Thus, it can be concluded that the Sobol sequence is a superior low discrepancy sequence than the Halton sequence and the Faure sequence on Monte Carlo simulation in European option pricing. |
