Absorption refrigeration is one of the alternative refrigeration systems that use natural refrigerant and renewable energy such as solar, biomass, and waste heat to complete the cycle. Intermittent absorption refrigeration system consists of two cycles, namely regeneration cycle and refrigeration cycle. Icyball refrigeration using ammonia – water mixture as its working fluid is one of the intermittent absorption used in this study. Experimental work on the icyball absorption refrigeration was carried out to study and analyze the effect of temperature, pressure and initial concentration of ammonia – water mixture on the performance of the refrigeration system. The results showed that the minimum evaporator temperature of icyball refrigerator depends on the maximum pressure obtained by condenser – evaporator vessel and the minimum pressure obtained by generator – absorber vessel at the beginning of the refrigeration cycle. The initial concentration of ammonia-water mixture and the condensing temperature affects the performance of intermittent absorption refrigeration. The optimum COP of the cycle from the experiment was 0,1613 with minimum evaporator temperature 21,6 oC, regeneration pressure 6 bar and condensing temperature 28 – 35 oC.
