Pola Spasial Struktur Pasar Jasa Seks Komersial
Abstract
The main objectives of this study are to map areas with the most attractive power to lure sex workers and areas with the most generative power to supply sex workers; to describe characteristics of those areas and their characterized indicators. The methods of analyses used in this study are descriptive analysis, Entropy Spatial Interaction Model, and Geographic Information System (GIS). The study shows that the regions with highly positive attractive power are Jayapura, Sorong and Merauke and those with highly negative attractive power are Karawang and Bekasi. These mean that an increase in commercial sex market development in Jayapura, Sorong and Merauke will induce the development of commercial sex market in other areas, meanwhile an increase in commercial sex market development in Karawang and Bekasi, will make the concentration of sex market only in these two areas, and therefore tend to diminish sex market in other areas. Moreover, it is found that the generative power is more powerful than the attractive power. This is because of poverty and lack of job opportunity in the source areas. Meanwhile, tight work competition in destination areas and relative low education level make to become sex workers is the only option available for young women. Therefore, alleviating poverty is one of the most powerful ways to diminish sex market development, beside localization.
