This research was conducted to identify the morphological and agrobiophysical characteristics, and production of saponin from Biophytum petersianum in situ and through experiment ex situ (in Bogor) with various shade intensities and cow manure dosages. The ex situ experiment was conducted using a split plot design with shade intensities as main plot (0, 25, 50 and 75%) and cow manure (0, 5, 10, 15, 20 ton/ha) as sub plot. Herbarium Bogoriense has proven that B. petersianum is a monoecious plant, not dioecious as convinced by the local community. The B. petersianum is a heliophyte plant as shown by reduced plant performance with shading. No shade and cow manure produced the highest saponin production (0.117 g/plant).
