      Identification of Improved variety and commercialization of soybean (Glycine max), Corn (Zea mays), and Tomato (Licopersicum esculentum)

      Abstract
      The objectives of this study wete to identify improved variety, seed commercialiiation, and some factors that affected the adoption of new varieties of soybean, rom and tomato. This study was conduded on Apd 10 July 2005 and February to April 2006 using survey method on Kediri and Lembang to get information the adoption of improved variety of soybean and tomato. Secondary, data were collected from several sources to identify improved variety and its commercialization which indicated by the lifespan of variety, planting area and its distribution. Result of this study indicated that until 2004 there are 58 high yielding varieties (HYV) of soybean, 126 HYV of corn, and 39 HYV of tomato have been released. The improvement of HYV were characterized by higher productivity, more resistant to pest and diseases, more adaptive to sub optimum oondition, and better quality. There are only a view improved varieties that adopted by the famers and commercial (less than 10%). The most commercial improved variety of soybean and corn are Wilis; Aijuna (composit variety), and pioneer 1 (hybrid variety). Marta tend to be the most popular in highland area due to longer storability and its productivity. There are some factors that affected the adoption by the farmer such as : productivity, resistancy to pest and disease. quality of product. seed suply, seed quality. information and promotion to the farmers. There are some new variety of Soybean but the farmers difficult to get the seed because of the lack of seed supply from seed industry.
