This research was conducted to study the acrosome status (intact and not intact) and quality (motility percentage, viability, plasma membrane integrity) of local ram’s spermatozoa cryopreserved in tris egg yolk extender with different types of carbohydrates. Semen was collected by using artificial vagina and then evaluated. Semen was extended with fructose, glucose, or lactose and equilibrated in straw and tube. All semen samples were then cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen. Post-thawed motility of spermatozoa in tris-fructose straw group was highest than others, but was not significantly different (P>0.05). Post-thawed viability and plasma membrane integrity of spermatozoa were not significantly different (P>0.05) among groups. Post-thawed acrosome status was not significantly different (P>0.05) except in tris-fructose tube and tris-lactose tube. In conclusion, the type of sugar and packging did not affect the acrosome status and quality of ram’s spermatozoa, but affected the motility of spermatozoa.
