Keterbukaan Areal Akiobat Penebangan dengan Intensitas Rendah di IUPHHK-HA PT. Wijaya Sentosa Papua Barat

Abstract

Harvesting activites in natural forest, particulary logging has not been fully carried out properly, this may cause damages such as large areal openness. The aim of this research was to calculate the total of open areas caused by low intensity logging. The plots that were used are circle plots with the radius of twice of central tree height used in this research. There were total of 15 plots. Areal openness is calculated by measuring the area at intervals of 1 meter from the base of fallen trees to the outermost part affected, whereas the measurements of canopy openness area performed at two measurement points, which were at ½ free branch height (HFBH) and ½ canopy height (HCH) before and after logging. The average of total areal openness that caused by low intensity logging was 451.71 m2 with a total open areas from 15 sample trees of 6865,60 m2, while the total amount of canopy openness before logging on HFBH point was 1.93 m2 and the HCH point is 3.85 m2 and the canopy openness after harvesting is 0.64 m2, and the total amount of canopy openness after logging on HFBH point is 6.98 m2 and the HCH point is 9.47 m2
