Study of Long Tailed Monkeys for Production of Trivalent Oral Polio Vaccine at PT Bio Farma (Persero)

Abstract

In order to eradicate Poliomyelitis, Bio Farma as the only vaccines and human biomedical producer in Indonesia is responsible for supplying Trivalent Oral Polio Vaccines (TOPV) demand for Indonesia and half of the world. TOPV is produced by inoculating Polio seed virus on monkey kidney cell culture. The cell culture could be contaminated by one or more extraneous agents like simian virus. Contamination of cell culture could be reduced by using monkeys fiom closed colony with periodical screening test.
