Etawah grade goats meat productions can be improved through the efforts of livestock genetic enhancement based on the exploration of potential genes that supposedly strong influence in growth trait. Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) gene is known to be associated with the milk production and growth traits. The objective of this research was to identify the polymorphism of IGF-1 gene in Etawah grade goats from BPTU KDI-HPT Pelaihari South Kalimantan. Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method used to detect the genotype of IGF-1 gene. Polymorphism in 5’-flanking region of IGF-1 gene was studied in 115 Etawah grade goats blood samples. A primer designed specifically was used to amplify a fragment DNA of IGF-1 locus along 249 bp. Restriction with SnaBI revealed one allele B was cut at one restriction site in fragment 249 bp. The frequencies for allele B was 1.00, resulting monomorphic allele. Based on Ge et al. (2001) and Siadkowska et al. (2006) researchs, allele B was associated on weight and body size.
