      Abstract
Fennel fruit are natural phytoestrogen compounds derived from plants and have an effect similar as natural estrogen. This study aims to describe the estrous cycle in productive female rats Sprague dawley given infusion of fennel. This research used 25 female rats that were divided in 5 goups. KN is negative control given 1 ml/100 gBB distilled water. KP is positive control given (etinil estradiol) 0.045 mg/100 gBB. Treatment 1, 2, and 3 (P1, P2, P3) given infusion of fennel with three different doses of 36.5 mg, 73 mg and 146 mg respectively for 100 gBB. Administration of distilled water, etinil estradiol and fennel were done for 20 days with the oral route, at the same time vaginal swab were taken to reveal the estrous cycle in rats in the morning and evening with a period of 12 hours. The changes of vaginal epithelium were examined to determine estrous cycle phase using a microscope. It was concluded that fennel fruit infussion doses 36.5 mg/100 gBB, 73 mg/100 gBB, 146 mg/100 gBB extend duration of estrous and metestrus phase but it become shorter the duration of proestrus and diestrus phase.
