Landuse change and forest degradation occur in many areas in Indonesia, including South Sulawesi that may affect carbon stock. Carbon stock decrease can be overcome by carbon mitigation. Carbon stock dynamic should be calculated to determine the amount of carbon in atmosphere that can be absorbed by forest. The objectives of this research were to estimate changes of forest cover and carbon stock in South Sulawesi and to build scenarios of carbon emission mitigation in South Sulawesi. The method used for building the model was system approach, which would explain the comparison of landuse change and its carbon sink rate in research location. The decrease rate of forest area was 7 362 ha/year. Carbon stock in 2006 was 539 mega ton C and fell by 15 mega ton C in 2050. There were four scenarios to mitigate carbon in this research: law enforcement, conservation province, tree planting on critical land, and forest reclamation after mining. The scenarios can prevent the rate of decreasing even increase carbon stock in South Sulawesi.
