      Abstract
Indonesia is a maritime country, with a vast sea area, producing huge number of fish as the biggest sea commodity. The utilization of marine products, particularly fish, can be optimized with a good handling process. Catched fish should be stored at temperature 0ºC-5ºC to maintain its freshness. Unfortunately, many Indonesian fishermen are still using conventional methods to deal with the haul. For instance, a lot of ice are used to maintain the temperature and the addition of salt to prevent rotten fish. However, those methods will result in changes of quality and taste of the fish. Author created a model of portable solar-powered fish-chiller instrument. Solar power was selected as the alternative source of electric energy for this instrument, considering the fact that sunlight is the best resource which can be utilized when fishermen sail. The design of this instrument is divided into 3 parts: chiller design, energy source and energy source connector. The capacity is 40 liter with dimension : 80 cm of length, 70 cm of width and 90 cm of height. According to the trial, this instrument is able to generate a minimum temperature of -13.5º C and maximum temperature of -0.9º C in 90 minute. Based on the data obtained, this instrument can be used as the fish chiller to maintain the freshness of the fish.
