Prevalensi infeksi Cryptosporidium sp pada sapi potong di Kecamatan Cijulang dan Cimerak, Ciamis, Jawa Barat
Abstract
Cryptosporidium sp is a parasite causes cryptosporidiosis in cattle. Cryptosporidiosis can be transmitted from animals to humans and vice versa (zoonosis). This research aimed to determine the prevalence of Cryptosporidium sp infection in cattle at Cijulang and Cimerak regency, Ciamis, West Java. Fecal specimens from 145 cattles of 77 farmers, consisted of 20 calves, 33 heifers and 92 adult cattles. Based on gender, the sample was consisted of 127 cows and 18 bulls. Sample of feces were examined by floating Sheather sugar and acid-fast staining method. Percentage prevalence of Cryptosporidium sp in Cimerak area (43.18%) was higher than in Cijulang area (14.29%). The result of statistical tests shows the prevalence of Cryptosporidium sp infection based on age and gender is no significant difference (P>0.05). However, based on the results of descriptive, prevalence infection of Cryptosporidium sp in cows (33.1%) was higher than in bulls (23%).
