Ecological Condition and Ecotourism Potency at Timbulun Waterfall area, Sungai Nanam Village, Solok District, West Sumatera

Timbulun Waterfall area is a beautiful place with the stream current as one aquatic resource at Sungai Nanam Village. These resources have an important value for community in area, such as drinking water and tourism. However, human activities around the area, such as agriculture and tourism activities are not control will effect for degradation in Timbulun Waterfall area. Tourism is one the economic activities that increase fast. This condition causes development of other sector that gives negative effect at area, such as transportation development and home stay. Therefore, management is a must. This study was carried out to asses the resources quality condition based on variable of physic, chemical, and biochemical aquatic. Observation of environmental variable came from 3 stations during February 2013 to March 2013. The Analysis was done mainly ecological analysis in Timbulun Waterfall area and potential matrix of ecotourism area in Timbulun Waterfall. This result of study shows that Timbulun Waterfall area has ecological aquatic environmental condition is very natural and not yet disturbance and pollution from human activities. Based on ecological analysis shows that there are 11 potential of environmental component to development as object in ecotourism activities in Timbulun Waterfall area, such as waterfall height, waterfall pool, natural scenery, bird and fish existance, topography, vegetation coverage, current and water color. Potential value of ecotourism in Timbulun Waterfall area is 77.77% or has potential for ecotourism development. Development potential of ecotourism area must be based ecological condition, especially to key parameter in ecosystem, such as temperature, oxygen demand, and biochemical oxygen demand. Therefore, management and utilization potential area, especially for ecotourism activities can be continuing.
