      Flow Characteristics Analysis in Division Box of Pipeline Irrigation System

      Abstract
      Irrigation with closed distribution system using pipes is possible to sedimentation in the pipes, therefore is necessary to design piping system so sedimentation in the pipes can be as minimal as possible. Division box in the tertiary irrigation network is very important in addition to divide discharge proportional to the field also as a sediment control that sedimentation in the pipe to a minimum. The main objective of this research is to design division box in the PVC pipe for irrigated paddy field, so that the results will be: (1) Flow characteristics Analysis in the division box for the most optimal pipeline so that the sedimentation in the pipe to a minimum; (2) Simulation to analyze the flow of sediment and flow characteristics in the piping irrigated using surface water as a source of irrigation water, (3) the relation between the design parameters of division box with the flow based on the diameter of the inlet pipe and outlet pipes. Durst (2008 ) explains that the similarity theory of dimensional analysis is that if the differential equations that describe the flow of the problem is unknown . It is important that dimensional analysis can also be used when the physical relation between the amount of which is not known at all . Division box built in the tertiary canals and the quarter in order to divide the irrigation water to all tertiary and quarter. Models of division box was made to simulate the flow in PVC pipe and division box in the same pipeline so that the quaternary as happened in the real situation on the field . In this research made the model of division box for irrigation piping systems with the circular cross section. Analysis of flow characteristics in the division box using the method of dimensional analysis. At the phase of dimensional analysis to determine the flow characteristics in PVC pipes and division box with choosing the basic unit of the relation between derivative quantities. The graphs of the data model and the simulation results in the field validation results that can be used as a reference in designing the division box in the irrigation network that uses PVC pipe for piping irrigated. Results of this graph can be used to determine the design of division box on tertiary irrigation network optimized so as to minimize the occurrence of sedimentation in the PVC pipe.
