Perlakuan Priming Benih untuk Mempertahankan Vigor Benih Kacang Panjang (Vigna unguiculata) Selama Penyimpanan

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the effect of priming to maintain vigor of longbean seeds during storage. The treatments were priming in water, KNO3, CaCl2, ascorbic acid, and imbibition beetwen papers for two hours. Osmoconditioning and hydropriming increased seeds moisture content about 9% whereas imbibition between papers increased about 1-2% over the control. After teatment, the seeds were dryed back to reduce moisture content to about 12-13% and then stored in ambient (26-30.8 °C; RH 68-77 %) and AC (±20 °C; RH ±50%) temperature packed in polypropilen plastic bags (thick 0.08 mm). Hydropriming, priming in CaCl2, KNO3, and ascorbic acid solution increased vigor index and speed of germination longbean seeds. The advantages of these treatments could be maintained until 15 weeks of storage, both in AC and ambient temperature. Hydropriming was the best choice for seed treatment before storage, because it was inexpensive and easy to applied.
