      Abstract
In 2011, bagan apung was the second largest fishing gear after kincang. It made up 23% of total fishing gears in Palabuhanratu. From 2007 to 2010, the number of the gear has decreased by 4%/year, how ever in 2011., it increased 12%. It was because the efficiency and the effectiveness of bagan apung was higher as compared to other gears. The change of the gear numbers, showed the performance of bagan apung fishing unit from catches composition and financial analysis. The catches composition of bagan apung was fluctuative and different, either for those which use fishing vessels or not. Based on effort analysis, the catches selling showed that the average profit for fishermen who own bagan apung with fishing vessel was Rp 22.441.017,00/year, for while for fishermen who own bagan apung without fishing vessel was Rp 18.928.250,00/year. The fishermen who own bagan apung with fishing vessels earned money from vessels renting about Rp 120.910.444/year. Based on R/C and ROI value, it can be seen that both types of bagan apung were feasible business. If the income was only from vessel renting, the business of bagan apung with fishing vessel was no longer feasible since its R/C is about 0,61 (R/C <1). Payback period of bagan apung with vessel was 6,99 years, and without vessel was 0,98 years. The investment analysis showed that the business of fishermen who own bagan apung with fishing vessel was feasible because by using interest rate at 13%, the NPV was Rp 8.187.023,00/year, Net B/C > 1 and IRR > 1 from interest rate at 13%.
