Control of mosquito vectors need to be considered because it's role as vector of various diseases. Control efforts to reduce mosquito population more using synthetic insecticides at this time. The controling has become difficult because of resistance to synthetic insecticides. This research was aim to determine the effectiveness of sambang colok (Aerva sanguinolenta) leaf extract as mosquito larvicide against third instar larvae of Aedes aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus. The study was conducted from April to July 2011 and performed in two stages. First stage was the extraction and phytochemical test and second stage was effication test of those extract againts larvae. The result showed that both of 91.7% Ae. aegypti larvae and 96.7% Cx. quinquefasciatus died at 1000 ppm after 24 hours exposure. Mortality of larvae increased with increasing the extract concentration and duration of exposure. The value of LC50 respectively from Ae. aegypti and Cx. quinquefasciatus were 494.47 ppm and 243.33 ppm. Sambang colok leaf extract was potential as a mosquito larvicide.
