      Abstract
      Local people in Ciampea limestone mountain meet the daily needs of water from the available springs or well water. The objective of this is to determine a simple processing for lowering the water hardness to be worthy of drinking. Water samples from springs and wells of the citizens were taken to identified for the total hardness, pH, and temperature of then processed by different set of media and lenght contact in order treatment to meet the quality standard of drinking water. The treatment of media and lenght contact media with water can reduce the hardness of water. Based on research that the combination media (1:1 carbon zeolites and active) with lenght contact 30 minutes is the best results in reducing hardness of 83,6% or 41,1 mg/l of hardness before the treatment.
       
      Masyarakat sekitar gunung kapur Ciampea memenuhi kebutuhan air sehari hari melalui mata air yang tersedia ataupun sumur tanah yang ada. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan cara pengolahan sederhana dalam menurunkan kesadahan air agar layak minum. Air sampel dari mata air dan sumur warga diambil untuk diidentifikasi kesadahan total, pH, dan suhu yang kemudian diolah menggunakan media dan lama kontak yang berbeda untuk memenuhi baku mutu air minum. Adanya perlakuan penggunaan media dan lama kontak media dengan air yang tepat dapat menurunkan kesadahan air. Berdasarkan penelitian didapatkan media kombinasi (zeolit dan karbon aktif dengan perbandingan 1:1) dengan lama kontak 30 menit merupakan hasil terbaik dalam menurunkan kesadahan yaitu sebesar 83,6% atau 41,1 mg/L dari kesadahan sebelum dilakukan perlakuan.
