Wood shrinkage is a dimensional stability characteristics of wood due to the changing of moisture content. Wood extractives is one of the factors that influence the wood shrinkage, which play as bulking agent. The objectives of this research are to measure extractives content of nangka (Arthocarpus heterophyllus) and akasia (Acacia mangium) and its influence on wood shrinkage. Extraction was carried out by soxhlet method with ethanol, ethanol:benzene (1:2), and boiling water. The results showed that moisture content, tangential shrinkage and radial shrinkage of wood were influenced by wood extractives content, as well as by type or group of extractives.
