      Abstract
The study was conducted to determine the effect of shrimp shell hydrolyzed by chitinase crude enzyme produced by Serratia marcescens in the formulation of catfish feed. In the first experiment, Serratia marcescens was cultured and the crude enzyme was separated by being centrifuged in 10.000rpm for 15m. The shrimp shell powder was then sprayed with the enzyme in multiple doses (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 U/100g powder) in two types of time (12 and 24h). The result showed that the 4 U/100g powder in 12h incubation had the lowest result of chitin. This best dose was then applied in the second experiment to find out the digestibility to the shrimp shell powder. In this experiment, the catfish was fed with 3 types of feed (reference feed as control, 70% reference feed and 30% hydrolyzed shrimp shell powder, and 70% reference feed and 30% shrimp shell powder). Results of this experiments showed that experimental feeds with hydrolyzed shrimp shell powder had the highest digestibility among the three. The third experiment, the hydrolyzed shrimp shell was used in the formulation of catfish feed to substituted fish meal in the formulation. Four different diets was used in this experiments, namely diet A contain 50% fish meal and 50% meat bone meal as animal protein source; diet B the 50% fish meal were substituted with 15% hydrolyzed shrimp shell and 85% fish meal; diet C the 50% fish meal were substituted with 30% hydrolyzed shrimp shell and 70% fish meal and diet D the 50% fish meal were substituted with 45% hydrolyzed shrimp shell and 55% fish meal. Ninety fish in each group was fed upon the experimental diets three times a day, at satiation for 30 days. Initial body weight of fish was 0,82 ± 0,04 gr. Data suggest that artificial diet containing 45% hydrolyzed shrimp shell have similar result in growth compare with diet control.
