Pengaruh Penambahan Pelet Ikan Koi Ke Dalam Ransum Terhadap Performa Landak Jawa (Hystrix javanica)

Abstract

Javan porcupine (Hystrix javanica) is one of the endengered species due to hunting by local communities for commercial purpose. An alternative methode to preserve the species is domestication through ex-situ breeding, and feeding is one important factor that contribute obviously successful domestication. The experiment was conducted to study the effect of koi fish pellet added into control feed on the performance of javan porcupine. The experiment used eight javan porcupines; four animals where given control feed (K0) consisting of forest jaat leaf, yam, taro belitung, tomato, siamesse banana and sweet corn, and the other animals were given control feed and koi fish pellet feed (K1). The data were analyzed descriptively and differences between treatment means were determined using T-test. The results showed that the addition of koi fish pellet into control ration increased significantly (P<0.05) total dry matter intake but daily gain, feed efficiency and final body weight of javan porcupine were not significantly affected by such addition.
