The increase of population may cause a domino effect in all aspects of life, especially in urban areas. The presence of vegetation cover will also threatened when the population continues to increase and subsequently may cause various effects of the erosion, flooding, landslides, and so on. This study, was performed to establish the Environmental Conservation Index (IKL) in Ambon to measure sustainability of the environment. The study was conducted from January to March 2012 in the Ambon City. Data collection was derived form face-to-face interviews with 440 respondents and secondary data compilation. The data analysis includes (a) weight determination; (b) score establishment; and (c) environmental conservation index development. The IKL models developed in this study is: IKL Urban = 0,127*Tl_skor + 0,095*Slop_skor + 0,175*Psm_skor + 0,238*Pdk_skor + 0206*Pddk_skor + 0,159*Pdptn_skor. The study found that 30.8 % of the Ambon City is categorized into conservative; 49.6% belong to less conservative categories, and into 19.7% extriemely conservative. Major proportion of the public community provides positive perseption to the importance of environment problem in Ambon City, where 77% of the activities involved in environment conservation. About 50% of the community expresses their satisfication the performance of the to government on management environmental problem.
