Mud crab captured by various fishing gears. Trap produces best quality catches, because of the catch remain alive. Research has been conducted in Legonwetan and Mayangan waters since April to May 2012, aiming to get productivity and selectivity crab of collapsible traps. Laboratory-scale research was conducted to gain corresponding trajectory entrance angle, materials, and determining escape gaps size. Modified gear is 70 cm x 50 cm x 35 cm (L x W x H), with ramp tilt angle 30° and 40° with escape gap sizes 4 cm x 6 cm and 5 cm x 7 cm. Furthermore, fishing trials were conducted to see catches composition. ANOVA and t test were used to determine difference between tested folding traps. The result shows that there are significant influence in the doorway tilt angle differences to the amount of crab catches (F = 5.458, P = 0.023 <α = 0.05). Doorway tilt angle of 30 ° produce more catch than 40 ° angle ((t hit = 4.407, P <0.05). In conclusion, crab folding trap with trajectory doorway tilt angle of 30° is more productive to catch crabs and escape gap of 4 cm x 6 cm effective to release juvenile crabs.
