      Abstract
      Study in investigating the technical and socio-economic conditions that may affect the successful implementation of Artificial Insemination (AI) program were done in Sawahlunto July 2011 to September 2012. This study was conducted through interviews with survey methods in the form of questionnaires to 44 farmers and 16 inseminators. This study aimed to determine the factors that could affect the successful implementation of the AI program. The results of the study showed that most farmers had low level of education and experience. Raising beef cattle only as a side job, with the majority of main jobs as farmers and cattle ownership below 5 heads. Animal husbandry technique applied by most breeders was a semiintensive and a small portion was applied extensively. Experience of inseminator on duty was low and half of inseminator did not have a License in Performing Artificial Insemination (SIMI). Working system of inseminator has been performed well, but the working capability still less. The success rate of implementation of the AI program were assessed from the number of services per conception (S/C) and conception rate (CR) had been good, but the value of calving interval (CI) still low. Factors that influence the success rate of implementation of the AI program was raising experience and farming system which in use, while the level of education and participation of farmers had no effect
