      Bonding of Organic-C after Addition of Various Types of Compost into Two Types of Soils of Different Land Covers

      Abstract
      Soil organic matter content is determined by two factors : characteristic of soil and the source of organic matter. Source of organic matter come from natural vegetation (soil surface), under surface of soil (plant roots) and addit ion of organic matter. In general, soil organic matter content is about 3 to 5 percent, but it’s influence is very important to soil. There are three forms of organic matter in soil, i.e free, bound to clay and bound to Al and Fe. Soil ability to bind organic matter is different in each type of soil. It is associated with clay type and clay content and also Al and Fe content. Natural vegetation and land cover also influence organic matter content in soil. The objective of the research was to know the ability of two type of soils in bonding organic matter from compost in relation to a difference in land cover. Soil samples that were used consist of Andosol from Sukamantri and Latosol from Dramaga. The samples were taken from two upper layers of each type of soil. The organic matter that added were cow manure compost, chicken manure compost and straw compost. The mixture was incubated three months. Soil characteristics were analyzed included c-organic content, Al-dd and soil texture.
       
      Kadar bahan organik dalam tanah ditentukan oleh dua faktor yaitu sifat tanah itu sendiri dan sumber bahan organik yang diterima oleh tanah. Sumber bahan organik yang diterima oleh tanah berasal dari vegetasi alami (atas permukaan tanah), dari bawah permukaan tanah (akar tanaman) serta diberikan dalam bentuk amelioran berupa kompos. Secara umum, kadar bahan organik di dalam tanah tidak lebih besar dari 3-5 persen, tetapi pengaruhnya sangat penting bagi tanah. Bahan organik di dalam tanah terdapat dalam tiga bentuk yaitu bebas, berikatan dengan klei, serta berikatan dengan Al dan Fe. Kemampuan tanah dalam mengikat bahan organik berbeda-beda pada setiap jenis tanah, dalam hal ini terkait dengan tipe dan kadar klei, serta kadar Al dan Fe. Di samping itu, vegetasi alami dan tutupan lahan yang berada di atas permukaan tanah juga mempengaruhi kadar bahan organik dalam tanah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan dua jenis tanah dalam mengikat bahan organik yang berasal dari kompos dikaitkan dengan perbedaan tutupan lahan. Contoh tanah yang digunakan yaitu Andosol Sukamantri dan Latosol Dramaga dengan tutupan lahan berupa tegalan dan kebun campuran. Contoh tanah diambil dari dua kedalaman teratas pada setiap jenis tanah. Bahan organik yang ditambahkan berupa kompos kotoran sapi, kompos kotoran ayam dan kompos jerami. Sifat-sifat tanah yang ditetapkan meliputi kadar C-organik, Al-dd dan tekstur tanah.
