      Autonomy, self-adjustment, and stress of the first-year students of Bogor Agricultural University academic year 2011/2012

      Abstract
      The purpose of this study is to examine the autonomy, self-adjustment, and stress of the first-year students, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) academic year 2011/2012. This study use cross-sectional and retrospective designs. Sampling method use stratified propotional random based on sex and involving 205 students who selected with (85 male students and 120 female students). The data was collected on May 2012 at dormitory of TPB IPB, Dramaga. The different test results show that the autonomy of male students higher compared to the autonomy of female students. The regression test result show that the student mother’s education had positive effect to the autonomy of students. Autonomy students and father’s income had positive effect to the self-adjustment of students. The autonomy of students, self-adjustment’s students, and maternal age had negative effect to the stress of students. Based on the results, parents and the other support systems such as counselors, should be provide support for students in order to adapting and can deal with stress in the first-year.
       
      Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengkaji kemandirian, penyesuaian diri, dan stres mahasiswa Tingkat Persiapan Bersama (TPB) Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) tahun akademik 2011/2012. Pengumpulan data dilakukan pada bulan Mei 2012 di asrama TPB IPB, Dramaga. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain cross sectional dan retrospektif. Teknik pemilihan contoh menggunakan stratified proporsional random sampling berdasarkan jenis kelamin dengan melibatkan 205 mahasiswa TPB (85 mahasiswa dan 120 mahasiswi). Hasil uji beda menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa lebih mandiri dibandingkan mahasiswi. Hasil uji regresi menunjukkan bahwa lama pendidikan ibu berpengaruh positif terhadap kemandirian mahasiswa TPB. Kemandirian dan pendapatan ayah berpengaruh positif terhadap penyesuaian diri mahasiswa TPB. Kemandirian, penyesuaian diri, dan umur ibu berpengaruh negatif terhadap stres mahasiswa TPB. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, orang tua serta support system lainnya seperti konselor sebaiknya memberikan dukungan kepada mahasiswa agar dapat melakukan penyesuaian diri dan menghadapi stres di tingkat pertama.
