Comparison of People’s Economics News the Kompas and the Jurnal Bogor Daily in Agricultural and Non Agricultural Sector

Abstract

Daily news is one of mass communication media in printed matter. Information in this media performed as rubrics. One of the rubrics is information about people’s economics. Among the rubrics, there is information on people’s economics that is divided into agricultural and non-agricultural sector. This study is aimed to analyze of comparison on: (1) people’s economics news in agricultural and non - agricultural sector, (2) direction of news, (3) sources of news, (4) location of news gathering, from two daily. Each unit analysis consists of 24 edition that carried out in rotated random sampling. Object of this study is the Kompas and Jurnal Bogor daily. The result shows that the Kompas daily have more proportion on agricultural news (45,46 percent) than the Jurnal Bogor (24,24 percent). On the other hand, the Jurnal Bogor have non agricultural news more than the Kompas, they are 19,19 percent and 11,11 percent, respectively. From news categories can be showed that higher frequency and percentage impact to higher average of news volume. The direction of the news showed that the Kompas daily have two ways, while the Jurnal Bogor in a positive manner. The Kompas also had a consistent news source from government and non government sources (balance), while the Jurnal Bogor gathered the information from the government on agriculture news and the information from the non government on non agriculture news. Location of news gathering, on the other hand, the Kompas daily gather the information of non agricultural sector did not focus only in urban location while the Jurnal Bogor focused in the villages.
