      Abstract
      This research was aimed to describe the morphology of the esophagus and stomach of Asian palm civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus). This study was used organs from three Asian palm civets which observed macroscopic and microscopically. The macroscopic observation had done by observing the shape and the size of the esophagus and stomach. The microscopic observation was done using histochemical method with hematoksilin eosin (HE), alcian blue (AB) pH 2.5, and periodic acid Schiff (PAS) staining methods. The results showed that the esophagus were 17.3 centimeters in length and 1.06, 0.72, 0.83 centimeters in diameters of cranial, medial, and caudal portion respectively. The esophagus was lined with nonkeratinized stratified squamous epithelium, has no esophageal glands, and more than half was consist of skeletal muscle. The stomach of Asian palm civet was a J shape with the greater curvature about two times longer than the lesser one. The glandular stomachs were composed of cardiac, fundic, and pyloric glands. Fundic glands were characterized by the presence of mucous cells, chief cells and a great number of parietal cells. At the border between pylorus and the duodenum was found a thin of pyloric sphincter muscle. Brunner glands were found in the submucosal area of pylorus near the border. The AB and PAS stain showed neutral carbohydrates were dominant on the surface of the esophagus and the glandular
