      Abstract
Pangas catfish is one of aquaculture main commodity in Indonesia and a commodity with significant increase production during 2007-2008. Suppliers often encounter a problem from the low survival rate during the fry transportation which is caused by poor water quality. Therefore, a research to increase the survival rate on closed system transportation as an effort to increase profit on fish marketing is needed. Osmoregulation (osmotic pressure) is a parameter changed during transportation. The change itself can be balanced with salinity addition, which in turn affect the organism osmoregulation. Determining the optimal salinity will affect fry survival rate during transportation. The research was conducted between April 2010 and May 2010 at Laboratory of Production Technique and Management Aquaculture, Aquaculture Department, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Bogor Agriculture University. Water quality parameters was measured at Environmental Laboratory, Aquaculture Department, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Bogor Agriculture University and osmotic pressure measurement was conducted at Embriology Laboratory, Veterinary Faculty, Bogor Agriculture University. Fish rearing pre and post transportation treatment was conducted at Yohanes Tropical Fish Farm, Cogreg Village, Parung, Bogor. This research used 1 inch fry with 2,58±0,03 cm average length and average weight 0,21±0,02 gram provided from Cogreg Village, Parung, Bogor Regency, West Java. The fry was transported in 12 Poly Ethylene (PE) plastic bag filled with 1,25 litre water. Whereas post transportation fish located in 12 aquarium filled with 144 litre water at 30 cm water height. During fry rearing, the fry were fed on shrimp feed (protein 40%) twice a day at morning and afternoon with at satiation method. Water at the aquarium was changed by 10% everyday (5% in the morning and 5 % in the afternoon). Results on salinity addition on transportation media after 3 days post transportation showed survival rate 90%; 91%, 94,67% and 96,33%; and market profit Rp 6.259.935,00; Rp 7.272.935,00; Rp 8.731.315,00; and Rp.9.477.555,00 respectively. Salinity addition on the transportation water medium 0 ppt, 1 ppt, 2 ppt and 3 ppt affect survival rate of pangas catfish fry (P>0,05). Salinity at 3 ppt gave the highest fry survival rate and market profit
