Evaluasi Morfologi dan Sistem Indeks Serta Respon Fisiologis Domba Ekor Tipis dan Domba Garut pada Umur dan Ransum yang Berbeda
Abstract
This paper is concerned of body measurements associated with production characteristics also as indicators of type of sheep. The experiment was conducted at university area on morphology and physiologycal respone (pulse rate, respiration rate, and rectal temperature) in intensive system. Live weight and eight body measurements were taken on 32 local sheep consisted of 16 garut sheep (8 fat lamb and 8 yearling) and 16 javanese thin-tailed sheep sheep (8 fat lamb and 8 yearling). They were divided into two groups and given Indigofera sp. and mung bean waste. The data were recorded every 30 days. The body measurements used were live weight, shoulder width, foreleg length, body length, rump height, rump width, rump length and heart girth. The indices used were weight, height slope, length index, width slope, depth index, foreleg length, balance and cumulative index. The data were analyzed by factorial 2x2 (body measurements) and 2x2x3 (physiologycal respone) with Statistix 8.0. The measured parts were highly correlated. Tested indices showed that both sheep are typical of meat animals. This was shown by the cumulative index, length and balance indices which were 1,66; 0,91; and 0,75 for both breeds. The respective coefficient of variation between breeds indicates the opportunity for improving the breeds through selection. The index results of index system showed that in both sheep had height slope/cumulative index, height slope index/length index and weight index were significantly (P<0.01) correlated. Rectal temperature in the morning was higher than at noon and afternoon. The physiological result showed that there were significant differences (P<0,01) on respiration by time, also rectal temperature and pulse rate by time and breed.
