      Abstract
Stocking density is one of important environmental factor which is need to be considered in generating good production and quality of japanese quail (Coturnix-coturnix japonica) egg. This study was aimed to investigate the effects of various stocking density and determine the most optimum cage density on production and quality of quail egg. A total of 135 of japanese quails were used in this study. The quails were kept in cages with a stocking density of 12 birds, 15 birds, and 18 birds on 62 x 50 x 26 cm cages and each level of treatment consisted of 3 replications. Feed consumption, feed conversion ratio, hen day egg production, average egg weight, and mortality rate were recorded. Egg weight, shell weight, shell thickness, yolk colour, Haugh Unit (HU), and yolk index were also investigated. The obtained data were analyzed by using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Data of hen day production and feed conversion were presented descriptively. All traits were not different among treatments. The quails were kept in cages with a stocking density of 12 birds revealed the most optimum egg production according to the data of hen day production and feed conversion.
