Efektifitas Pemberian Ekstrak Etanol Purwoceng (Pimpinella alpina) terhadap Pertambahan Bobot Badan Tikus Betina Buting Umur Kebuntingan 0 – 13 Hari

Abstract

Purwoceng (Pimpinella alpina) is one of plants that used to raise the libido in man and usually called “Java Viagra”. The former research mentioned that this plant contain substances that could increase testosterone production in male. The administration of purwoceng was purposed to increase the weight of pregnant female rat at 0-13 days gestation. There were two groups, the control group and the given purwoceng ethanol extract group. The dosage of purwoceng that given was 25 mg / 300 gram body weight. The result showed that there was no different on body weight between them, but purwoceng tended to raise the weight of pregnant female rat. This plant especially the root, contains flavonoid that has known as estrogenic substance and also a few steroid that used as precursor for testosterone production. Most of testosterone in female is converted into estrogen. Estrogen can cause the increment of body weight because it affects the proliferation of cell. Therefore purwoceng as estrogenic plant could also have the same effect

Purwoceng (Pimpinella alpina) merupakan salah satu tanaman yang digunakan untuk meningkatkan libido pada pria dan biasanya disebut "Viagra Jawa". Penelitian terdahulu disebutkan bahwa tanaman ini mengandung zat yang dapat meningkatkan produksi testosteron pada laki-laki. Pemberian purwoceng bertujuan untuk meningkatkan bobot badan tikus betina bunting pada usia kebuntingan 0-13 hari. Terdapat dua kelompok, kelompok kontrol dan kelompok purwoceng diberikan ekstrak etanol. Dosis purwoceng yang diberikan adalah 25 mg / 300 gram berat badan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan yang nyata pada berat badan antara kelompok kontrol dan perlakuan, tetapi purwoceng cenderung meningkatkan berat badan tikus betina bunting. Tanaman ini terutama akarnya, mengandung flavonoid yang dikenal sebagai substansi estrogenik dan juga beberapa steroid yang digunakan sebagai prekursor produksi testosteron. Sebagian besar testosteron pada wanita diubah menjadi estrogen. Estrogen dapat menyebabkan pertambahan bobot badan karena mempengaruhi proliferasi sel, oleh karena itu purwoceng sebagai tanaman estrogenik juga bisa memiliki efek yang sama.
