Cattle Development Potential of Land Resources Based in Tanah Bumbu regency of South Kalimantan Province.

Abstract

Development of beef cattle is closely related to potential land resources. Tanah Bumbu Regency has a superior commodity that is beef cattle, with a population until the year 2009 amounted to 31 568 individuals. Development area of beef cattle in Tanah Bumbu apparently not noticed the potential of land resources. Purpose of this study are: 1) to identify the basic sector and centralization of activities, 2) to identify the types of appropriate land use, 3) to identify the ecological land suitability, 4) to identify land source for animal feed, forage and 5) to determine the priority direction of development land. The study lasted from October 2008 until February 2011. Processing data using the GIS program Arc View 3.3, Erdas Imagine 6.8, MS Excel and MS XP. GPS tools and other tools that support. Determination of the basic sector and the centralization of activities using the Location Quotient (LQ), Localization Index (LI) and Specialization Index (SI).

Pengembangan sapi potong erat kaitannya dengan potensi sumberdaya lahan. Kabupaten Tanah Bumbu memiliki komoditas unggulan ternak sapi potong, dengan populasi sampai tahun 2009 sebesar 31 568 ekor. Pengembangan wilayah untuk ternak sapi potong di Kabupaten Tanah Bumbu ternyata belum memperhatikan potensi sumberdaya lahan. Tujuan, penelitian ini adalah: 1) mengidentifikasi sektor basis dan pemusatan aktifitas, 2) mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis penggunaan lahan yang sesuai, 3) mengidentifikasi kesesuaian lahan lingkungan ekologis, 4) mengidentifikasi lahan sumber hijauan makanan ternak, 5) menentukan prioritas arahan lahan pengembangan. Penelitian berlangsung dari bulan Oktober 2008 sampai dengan Februari 2011. Pengolahan data menggunakan program GIS Arc View 3.3, Erdas Imagine 8.6, MS Excel dan MS XP. Alat bantu GPS dan alat-alat lain yang menunjang. Penentuan sektor basis dan pemusatan aktifitas menggunakan analisis Location Quotient (LQ), Localization Index (LI) dan Specialization Index (SI).
