      Abstract
      Low efficiency of urea absorption by plants will cause damage to the plants and pollute the environment. Superabsorbent polymer (SAP) enriched with urea was used to increase its absorption efficiency by plants. SAP was synthesized by using grafting-crosslinking copolymerization of acrylamide onto onggok (cassava solid waste) at various level of crosslinker (50, 75, and 100 mg). Saponification was carried out to increase SAP’s water absorptivity. The success of grafting and crosslinking process was indicated by Fourier transform infrared spectrum. The SAP obtained were enriched with urea by soaking them in 1000 ppm of urea solution, and the release rate were studied in water statically. A mathematical model of urea release rate, based on logistic growth model exponential association 2 type, was developed to describe the change of urea concentration with time. The slowest release rate was 0.81 ppm/minute for SAP with 100 mg of crosslinker. The urea release rate pattern from SAP that getting slower indicated that the urea absorption by plants more efficient than the conventional method.
       
      Rendahnya efisiensi penyerapan urea oleh tanaman akan menimbulkan kerusakan pada tanaman itu sendiri dan mencemari lingkungan. Polimer superabsorben (SAP) yang diperkaya urea digunakan dalam upaya peningkatan efisiensi penyerapan urea oleh tanaman. SAP disintesis dengan kopolimerisasi pencangkokan-penautan-silang akrilamida pada onggok (limbah padat singkong) dengan jumlah penaut-silang beragam (50, 75, dan 100 mg). Proses saponifikasi dilakukan untuk meningkatkan daya serap air SAP. Keberhasilan proses pencangkokan-penautan-silang ditunjukkan oleh spektrum inframerah transformasi Fourier. Pengayaan SAP yang diperoleh dengan urea dilakukan dengan cara merendamnya dalam larutan urea 1000 ppm dan diteliti laju pelepasan dalam air secara statis. Model matematika laju pelepasan urea, yang didasarkan pada model pertumbuhan logistik jenis hubungan eksponensial 2, dikembangkan untuk menggambarkan perubahan konsentrasi urea terhadap waktu. Laju pelepasan yang paling rendah sebesar 0.81 ppm/menit ditunjukkan oleh SAP dengan penaut-silang 100 mg. Pola laju pelepasan urea pada SAP yang semakin rendah mengindikasikan penyerapan urea oleh tanaman lebih efisien dibandingkan pemberian urea secara konvensional.
