The objective of this research was to study the effects of controlled pollination on papaya fruit quality . This research was conducted in March-December 2009 at Tajur Field Station of Center for Tropical Fruit Studies, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Bogor. The treatment was enclosing female flower of IPB 1 genotype in a wax paper bag after the stigma had been pollinated by pollen from IPB 3, IPB 4, and IPB 9 genotype. The flower of papaya were enclosed in wax paper to prevent insect or wind pollination. Fruit were harvested when they had reached maturity level. The result of the treatment showed that fruits from the female flower pollinated by pollen from IPB 3, IPB 4, and IPB 9 genotype has a fruit diameter, fruit flesh thickness minimum, fruit flesh weight, fruit skin weight, seed weight, 100 seed weight and seed number is greater than the open pollinated female fruit of IPB 1 genotype. Fruit from female flower that had been pollinated by pollen from other genotype has better physical characteristic than open pollinated one.
