Karakteristik Morfometrik Domba Garut Yang Diberikan Perlakuan Pencukuran dan Dipelihara Secara Semi Intensif

Abstract

Recently, the temperature of the weather condition in the world increasing (global warming). The increasing of the temperature can be effected to the livestock conditions, such as heat stress. This condition also can be effected to the characteristic morphometric of the animals. This research was conducted for 10 weeks, 20 garut sheeps under 1 year old used, which consists of five males were shaved, five males were not shaved, five females were shaved and five females were not shaved. The result showed the generally treatment of shaved has not significant (P>0,05) for all parameter in the last research and growth morfometric. Except to The growth morfometric of body length, and rump height has significant (P<0,05). The growth of body length, the shearing sheep (5,35±1,20 cm) was lower than not shearing (7,00±2,19 cm). The growth of rump height, the shearing sheep (7,00±2,66 cm) was higher than not shearing (4,40±1,41 cm). There is interaction between shearing treatment and sex. The growth rump leght, the females were shaved (2,88 ±1,30 cm) and males were shaved (1,30±0,57 cm) has significant (P < 0,05). The growth rump leght of female were shaved higher than male were shaved, but the growth rump leght of female were shaved same with the female and male were not shaved.

Penampilan seekor hewan adalah hasil dari suatu proses pertumbuhan yang berkesinambungan dalam seluruh hidup hewan tersebut. Pertumbuhan atau perkembangan ternak dipengaruhi oleh faktor genetik dan lingkungan. Salah satu faktor lingkungan adalah iklim, terutama suhu dan kelembaban. Ketika suhu semakin meningkat maka ternak mendapatkan cekaman panas. Saat ini dunia sedang mengalami peningkatan suhu bumi secara global (global warming). Secara umum akan berpengaruh terhadap performa produksi ternak. Karakteristik morfometrik merupakan salah satu faktor dari performa produksi ternak. Ukuran tubuh (morfometrik) merupakan sifat kuantitatif yang dapat memberikan gambaran secara eksterior seekor ternak. Oleh karena itu, untuk meningkatkan performa ternak diperlukan manajemen yang tepat untuk mengatasinya, salah satunya adalah pencukuran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan pengaruh pencukuran terhadap karakteristik morfometrik domba garut jantan dan betina yang dipelihara secara semi intensif. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Peternakan Domba Indocement, di Desa Tajur, Kecamatan Citeureup, Kabupaten Bogor dan dilaksanakan selama 10 minggu mulai bulan Agustus sampai Oktober 2010.
