      Abstract
      Bandung Cit) has undergone land cover changes indicated by the enlargement of constructed areas. This caused on the decrease of Green Open Space (RTH) which lowered the beauty and comfol-t of the city due to increasing urban surface temperature. Remote sensing data is used to identify the changes on temperature distribution caused by land cover changes. While Geographic Infor~nation System is applied to gain precise spatial data in a short time. The purposes of this study are ( I ) to lcnow and analyze land cover changes in Bandung City year 1997, 2002, and 2006; (2) to know and analyze the distribution of surface temperature due to land cover changes in Bandung City year 1997, 2002 and 2006; and (3) to determine correlation between vegetated Nol-nzalized Diference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and urban surface temperature. The methods of the study include laboratory work and ground check. Processi~lgo f Landsat image TM and ETM used ERDAS Inzcigine 8.5. This work consisted of ( I ) data import. layer stacking, geometric correction, image cropping, land cover classification, and accuracy test for the res~~lotf land cover classification; (2) conversion of Band 6 into surface temperature and classification of urban surface temperature, analysis of land cover impact on the distribution of surface temperature in urban and rural areas; and (3) correlation between vegetated Nornznlized Dijfel-ence Vegetation Index (NDVI) and surface temperature.
