Karakteristik morfologi ayam pelung dewasa diKecamatan Cibeber dan Gekbrong Kabupaten Cianjur, Jawa Barat

Abstract

Pelung chicken as one of local chicken in Indonesia that have specificity, especially on male chicken which long voice, beautiful, and specific rhyme. The male of Pelung chicken have heavier body weight than any other male chicken. It show a potential characteristic as meat type chicken. The purpose of this research was to collect information of specific morphological characteristic of Pelung chicken in Cianjur. The research was conducted in subdisdricts of Cibeber and Gekbrong in two months, from May up to the end of Juty 2006. Data were collected from 63 heads of Pelung males and 37 heads of hens in Cibeber, a9 heads Pelung males and 50 heads of hens in Gekbrong. The morphological chracteristic of Pelung chicken was analyzed by using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The result of Principal component Analysis showed that males Pelung chicken in the subdistrict of Geicbmng had bigger body size than Pelung chicken in the subdistrict of Cibebe7, while body shape- was similar. Body size of male Pelung chicken could be identified by chest circumference, while body shape by femur and neck lenght Size and shape of female Pelung chicken in two subdistrict were different Body size of female pilung chicken were identified by wing lenght and ched circumferenced, while body shape by neck lenght Keyword : Pelung chicken, morphology, Principal Component Analysis.
