Abstract

Genetic improvement of Indonesian Local Sheep can be gained through selection for traits having economic interest, i.e., meat and growth traits. Calpastatin (CAST) play an essential role in inhibiting muscle protein degradation and responsible for muscle hypertrophy. DNA polymorphisms within the calpastatin gene may lead to the phenotypic differences of sheep growth traits.
