Membran polistirena dengan penambahan pluronic® untuk pervaporasi etanol
Abstract
One of the applications of membrane is pervaporation. Pervaporation is an efficient liquid separation using membrane. One of the compounds that can be purified is ethanol. Polystyrene membrane for ethanol pervaporation has several advantages, including easy for handling and reduced energy demand. Polystyrene membrane was prepared by adding nonionic surfactant (Pluronic®) as pore former. Pluronic® was added at various levels, i.e. 0; 0,5; 1; 1,5; and 2 g with time stirring of 10 and 20 hours for each composition. Characterization membranes was performed by Fourier Transform Infrared and surface morphology of membrane was determined by Scanning Electron Microscope. Pervaporation wathat produced the highest separation factor (αsep) of 38,9082 was obtained upon 20 hours stirring with addition of Pluronic® 1,5 g. The concentration of ethanol increased from 60% to 87%.
