Analisis motivasi pemanenan kayu rakyat berdasarkan karakteristik petani hutan rakyat: kasus di Desa Padasari, Kecamatan Cimalaka, Kabupaten Sumedang, Jawa Barat
Abstract
Timber business from community forests untill today generally are still regarded as a side business or as savings because of long-time cycle of planting and low-income contribution. The management of community forests are focused at the housewifery level or community forest farming families. They have their own characteristics. One part of the management of community forests is timber harvesting. The objectives of this research are: (1) identify the characteristics of community forest farmers; (2) find out the motivation of timber harvesting; and (3) analyzing the motivation of timber harvesting based on characteristics of community forest farmers. This research uses a survey method with purposive sampling. The samples or respondents are the community forest farmers who have harvested their timber. The respondents were selected puposively, totally 60 persons. The community forest farmers in the village of Padasari harvested their timber with different motivations. The highest percentage of motivation is to build a house (38.67%). The other motivations sequentially according to its percentage from the highest untill the lowest are business capital (16%), repaire a house (14.67%), buying land (10.67%), education costs (9.33%), debts payment (2.67%), buy a house (2.67%), medical expenses (1.33%), wedding expenses (1.33%), daily necessities (1.33%), and pilgrim costs (1.33%). Based on characteristics of community forest farmers, the motivation to build a house generally appear in the respondents aged between 40–44 years old and 60–64 years old, male, elementary school and junior high school education, principal occupation as farmers, 10–19 years farming experience, land ownership below 0.29 ha, has family members 3–4 persons, and average monthly income Rp 1,300,000.00/month untill Rp 2,590,000.00/month.
