Pendugaan cadangan karbon (Carbon Stock) dan neraca karbon pada perkebunan karet
Abstract
Environmental safety issues has become one of the important requirements in the global trade in 2010, but this issue has not been addresed adequately by rubber plantation whose focus was more on production of latex. This study aims to estimate the potential of carbon stock in rubber plantation at several age class systems and to calculate the carbon balance in the rubber plantation. This research, using two approaches to estimate total carbon stocks and soil carbon budget. Biomass stock of rubber is estimated by allometric formula (Kettering 2001) of BK= 0,11ρD2.62, where D is the diameter at breast height (dbh), BK is the biomass, and ρ is wood density. The results show that carbon stock in 20, 25, 31 years land are 331.5 ton/ha, 374.23 ton/ha, and 412.32 ton/ha, respectively.Rate of emission decreases as the tree getting older. Prevoious study before Yulyana (2005) at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 31 years old rubber land, the 10 years old rubber release the highest emission of 0.70 g/m2/th and only absorb the carbon 0.30 g/m2/th hence the rubber land age 10 years old is considered as carbon emitter. The carbon absorbtion rate of rubber land age 31 years old is 0.84 g/m2/th and emission rate is 0.16 g/m2/th. Therefore, the rubber plantation would be better active as carbon absorber, while is better or environtmental safety.
