Performa Domba Ekor Tipis Jantan Yang Diberi Pakan Rumput Brachiaria humidicola Dan Kulit Singkong Pasca Transportasi
Abstract
Livestock transportation has been known to cause decrease in their body weight. This is because that livestock are generally transported by pick up car or truck with a high density and temperature so that livestock become stress during the trip. Using cassava hull as livestock feed is expected to become alternative feed for the sheep’s body weight recovery, because the cassava hull is a source of energy with high carbohydrate content, but its use should be restricted because there are HCN as antinutrition substances. Twelve yearling male indigenous local sheep with initial average body weight 16,94 ± 0,67 were used in this research. Dietary treatments consisted of R0 : 100% Brachiaria humidicola + 0% cassava hull, R1 : 75% cassava hull + 25% Brachiaria humidicola, R2 : 50% cassava hull + 50% Brachiaria humidicola, R3 : 25% cassava hull + 75% Brachiaria humidicola. The experimental design was randomized completely design. Variables observed were recondition time, body weight decrease, daily weight gain, feed consumption and feed conversion. The data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance and any significant differences were further tested using Duncan’s test. The results showed that different level of Brachiaria humidicola grass and cassava hull did not have effect on the time of recondition, daily weight gain, average feed consumption and feed conversion during reconditioning periods. The conclusion of research is that cassava hull could be used as a feed substitute energy source for sheep after transportation, with recommended level of cassava hull can be 25%.
