Indonesia is a developing country, had two nutrition problems,i.e. under nutrition and over nutrition. Overweight in childhood would be a risk factor for degenerative diseases, such as vascular diseases, hypertension and hyperlipidemia in adulthood; discrimination from their peer group; negative body image; depression; and unable to manage social interactions. Based on Riskesdas. 2007, prevalence of overweight of 6-14 years-old children in Indonesia was, 9.5% for males and 6.4% for females. In South Sumatera, the prevalence of overweight and obesity of children aged 6-14 years old was 16 % in males and 11 % in females. The Objective of research is to analyze influencing factors associated with overweight in 6-14 year-old children in South Sumatera. Design of the research was the crossed - sectional. Nutritional status, as independent variable was measured with weight for height. Dependent variables consist of sex, age, father education, status of father occupation, family income, number of family member, eating fruits habit, eating vegetable habit, eating fatty food habit, eating sweetfood habit, energy and protein intake, physical activity, and father’s BMI as independent variables. Data were analysis by SPSS. The results show that prevalence of overweight was 12.7%. There were significant correlation among sex, age, physical activity, eating fruits habit, eating fatty food habit, energy intake, protein intake and father’s BMI with overweight (p<0.05). Determinant factor of overweight the most was physical activity (OR = 1.491).
