Pola Penyediaan Hijauan Pakan Ternak Sapi Pedaging di Kampung Cikoang, Desa Sakur Jaya, Kecamatan Ujung Jaya, Kabupaten Sumedang

Abstract

Fodder is the main feed of ruminant, especially cattle, buffaloes, goats and sheep. Farmers in Indonesia are generally rely on the available fodder which naturally provide for the cattle. The study was conducted in January and February 2009 with a survey method in the ward Cikoang, Sakurjaya village, Ujungjaya district, Sumedang city. The collection of data and infoemation through direct observation, discussion groups, shooting and taking green plant materials. There are two patterns of fodder supply, the first with which the cattle grazing in the teaklmahagony forest owned by Perum PERHUTANI which the extent about 2500 ha for 6-8 hours I day. The number of cattle is about 600 which divided into 3 grazing groups,with a cruising range up to 8 km. Second, cut and carry, where farmers provide additional fodder obtained by mowing at the edge of forest, field, road and marginal area. Beside that, it also provided agricultural waste primarily rice and com straw. Providing additional fodder usually do in the afternoon when the cattle enter the stable. The dominant vegetatation which consumed by the cattle are jukut Piit ilsachne albens TRIN.), jukut Tapak jalak iDactyloctenium aegyptium (L.) WiIld.), jukut Tatambagaan ilschaemum timorense KUNTH.), jukuI Malela iBrachiaria reptans (L.) Gardn. & Hubb.), jukut Watuton iEchinocblou colona (L.) Link.) jukut lbun (Panicum sp.) jukut Gagalatikan (Paspaillm cartilagineum J.S. Presl ex e.B. Presl.) dan Jekeng kuning (Cypellls compacrus Retz.) The provision of fodder with grazing in the forest area didn't make a good result for the cattleı performance. Forest floor introduction with legumes was needed to improve the qualityı of fodder.
