      Abstract
      Penelitian terdiri dari suatu seri penelitian meliputi (1) manipulasi media dan lingkungan tumbuh untuk mendapatkan tanaman yang cocok sebagai sumber protoplas, (2) isolasi, kultur dan regenerasi protoplas kentang dan beberapa spesies solanum. (3) optimasi parameter elektro fusi, (4) fusi protoplas, regenerasi hasil fusi dan identifikasi hibrida somatik melaIui analisa flow cytometry, isoenzim, RAPD (random amplified polymorphism DNA) dan penghitungan kromosom, (5) keragaan fenotipik hibrida somatik secara in vitro, (6) keragaan fenotipik tanaman hibrida somatik di lapang. Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini adalah mendapatkan hibrida somatik yang unggul melalui fusi protoplas secara intra dan interspesies dari tetua-tetua yang telah terseleksi sebelumnya.
       
      This disertation consist of a series of research topics, namely (1) Manipulation of medium and environment to obtain vigorous in vitro plants for source of protoplats, (2) Isolation, culture and regeneration of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) protoplasts and several solanum tuber-bearing species, (3) optimation of electrical parameter for fusion, (4) Protoplasts fusion, regeneration and identification of somatic hybrids by flow cytometry, isoenzyme analysis, RAPD (random amplified polymorphism DNA) and chromosome counting, (5) In vitro performance of somatic hybrids and (6) Field performance of somatic hybrids.
