Pola Sebaran Spasial Shorea leprosula di Hutan Hujan Tropika (Studi Kasus di Areal Kerja HPH PT. Sari Bumi Kusuma, Propinsi Kalimantan Tengah
Abstract
Shorea kprosula is an important species in tropical rainforest, especially in Indonesia. Until now, S. leprosula still dominates the international market due to its unique characteristic such as long straight stem. Therefore, this species and another Dipterocarpaceae species are intensively harvested in forest concession meas. However, S. leprosula existence has steadily declined because of, among others, fire and excessive cutting. In managing this species, it is necessary to develop a methodology in understanding basic characteristics of the population, prim* in the analysis of spatial distribution pattern. The objective of this research is to know the spatial distribution pattern of Shorea kprosula in order to minimize excessive cutting andsupport the sustainabk Shorea logging. This research was conducted in a forest concession area of PT. Sari Bumi Kusuma, C e W Kalimantanfrom March lo May of 2000. There were two approaches adapted to describe the overall distribution pattern of the S. leprosula namely m*-m regression method and Ca-in&x. Generally S. leprosula has an aggregated distribution, but if we use the m*-m regression method, we could know that the bask component of S. leprosda is distributed as a colony that has a random distribution.
