      Abstract

Purple blotch caused by Alternaria porri is a major disease of Welsh onion that reduces productivity and increases control costs. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the active ingredients metalaxyl and mancozeb in suppressing the growth of A. porri under in vitro conditions. Symptomatic leaves were collected from four locations in Cianjur and Bogor using purposive sampling, followed by isolation and morphological identification of A. porri. A total of 20 A. porri isolates were successfully isolated and then tested for sensitivity to both fungicides using the poisoning medium method at the concentrations of 0.25, 0.50, 1, and 2 ml/L. The growth of fungal colony was measured at 3, 7, 10, and 14 days after treatment to calculate relative inhibition and IC50 values. Results showed variable sensitivity to mancozeb, with IC50 values ranging from 0.347 to 0.597 ml/L. Isolate JGC3 was the most sensitive, whereas STP5 was the most tolerant. Metalaxyl sensitivity also varied widely, with IC50 values ranging from 4.32 to 45.69. Isolate BLC2 exhibited the highest sensitivity, while STP3 showed the greatest tolerance.
