      Abstract

Alveolar bone resorption after tooth extraction can reduce bone volume and complicate implant placement, requiring a socket-filling biomaterial that can degrade along with new bone formation. One potential biomaterial is nano ß-tricalcium phosphate (ß-TKF). This study aimed to synthesize nano ß-tricalcium phosphate (ß-TKF) and evaluate its physicochemical characteristics, biodegradability, and bioactivity in vitro. XRD and FTIR results confirmed the formation of the ß-TKF phase, while SEM-EDX and PSA confirmed the morphology of nano-sized particles with a Ca/P ratio close to stoichiometric. Biodegradability tests showed that nano ß-TKF experienced a higher mass reduction and degradation rate compared to the control ß-TKF. Bioactivity tests showed the formation of a hydroxyapatite (HA) phase as a natural mineral constituent of bone. These results indicate that nano ß-TKF has the potential to be developed as an alternative biomaterial for alveolar bone preservation.
